PROGRAMS & KEYNOTES
UNFROZEN ®
This program aims to tell my personal and professional story about how sorority made me who I am (with excellent and challenging chapters along the way) and the ways we all could do better. During my time as a student, I was sexually assaulted. I speak to the power of creating a culture of care and consent that will help the sorority/ fraternity movement grow and transform. I saw how I and others acted in situations of violence and spaces where we all had the opportunity to work and be change-maker. For years I have wrestled with the feeling of not being able to catch my breath; because I know there is a story to tell here. A story about strength in humans and the development of someone’s brain in traumatic situations: looking back at my account and the stories of many people when they decide not to act or act, many regret not making the right decision. I hope to teach the audience that fighting or flight in those traumatic situations is very typical. However, many do not talk about how many of us FREEZE and that it is also a normal response to trauma. If we can understand that, we can start the process of proper intervention.
I want to empower audiences to react, advocate, and make decisions to pave the way for a better sorority or fraternity experience in the future- for them and their brothers and sisters. The goal of this program is for attendees to see that there are many small moments in someone’s experience in a sorority/fraternity ( or any organization) to make a difference, change situations for the better, and give them some tools in their toolkit to bring home with them.
UNFROZEN ®: The Workshop
A 2-hour highly interactive workshop that dives deeper into a bystander intervention approach. It allows participants to uncover community-wide issues and seek guidance and peer-to-peer support in providing resources, acting, and understanding consent culture and bystander intervention. This program will be primarily interactive learning methods with a short keynote and direction from the facilitator. Jamie Devin Wilson aims to share her story of sexual violence in a manner that uplifts, educates, and provides an avenue for real change in your organization.
Are you looking to pair this workshop with the keynote for a multidimensional learning experience? We call that a retreat and would be happy to chat through our 3-4 hour program with you if that is what you prefer. Either way, UNFROZEN ® can be adjusted to meet the time/needs and community desires.
WAIT, THAT'S HAZING?
Audiences will engage in a conversation about hazing. Participants will work through hazing in all forms and create space to evaluate their programs and membership processes. Too often, we hear, “I did not know that was hazing!” and they are genuinely telling the truth. The question we ask during this program is how can we educate to create change over educating for compliance? All forms of hazing are completely and utterly not tolerated. That being said, this program aims to catch students in the pre-planning and thought stages before new member classes and lines enter their doors. It aims to give students space to adjust and be empathetic to their own experiences and the experiences of future members. The program also includes Jamie’s UNFROZEN bystander intervention strategy and ways to intervene safely. Using the theory of mental health professionals and higher education experiences, this program will unite audiences to be the change-makers within their organizations and communities on hazing.
Does your Panhellenic chapter, a national organization, or council need a deep dive into anti-racism? Want to work together on how to dismantle white supremacy and racist ideologies within the process, policy, and procedure in panhellenic recruitment? Well, this program might be perfect. This program intends to build community, identify issues within the current recruitment process, and help the participants take steps to create a truly anti-racist process. Think about the microaggressions and overt racist actions that happen within the process, and now think about how if we all work together this experience can truly be a place for POC and Black women to come together and truly feel included. If you have ever been told to wear nude heels, straighten your hair, or be taken back when you have read a policy that seemed to exclude WOC, then this program can help!
MAKING RECRUITMENT ANTI-RACIST
LETTERS TO MY SON
In this newest keynote, "Letters to My Son", I will work to empower students with the tools and resources needed to successfully navigate their fraternity experience from recruitment to graduation.
This is a customizable keynote presentation that is delivered from my perspective as a parent, utilizing the metaphor of a letter to my son where I share the heartfelt concerns and valuable lessons about navigating brotherhood with respect, responsibility, and care.
In sum, “Letters to My Son” aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to navigate the complexities of fraternity life with responsibility, respect, and care - fostering a community that is safe, supportive, and ultimately enriching for all members.
BUY-IN IS FAKE, BELONGING IS REAL
This program, is at its core, a way for students to connect and build community. In its non-traditional approach to a keynote, students will interact, communicate, and gain an understanding of each other's similarities and differences. I talk about breaking down walls that we all put up and how we can gain a stronger bond and develop trust with one another. I communicate my personal story of how sorority has engaged me not just in my undergraduate years but for the past 10 years. We talk about the power of mentoring and creating a true culture of care within not just one organization but an entire community. Students will not just listen but will participate in facilitated in conversation, breakout groups, and moving around! This is for the groups that are really looking to engage. This can be adjusted for all types of groups and catered to the community through a conversation with the group booking!
THE POWER OF A STORY
This program captures students through the power of storytelling. Using my own experience as a foundation, this program aims to develop students' understanding of the power of telling their stories. I discuss the process of being a college student where a traumatic event ( sexual violence) occurred and how it took over 10 years to seek the help that I needed to move forward. Students will gain an understanding that everyone's process looks and feels different but it all matters. This helps highlight resources available to communities for whatever they need. This program talks about the power of different types of counseling and therapy. This program helps humans be comfortable with taking the steps to truly understand the POWER and CHALLENGES of telling their stories. This program tells the full story of my story.
CREATING A STRONG & HONEST RECRUITMENT
By utilizing traditional tactics and integrating non-traditional methods groups will be able to practice telling their story. Groups that get to engage with this keynote or workshop will understand their brand and truly get to the realization that who we recruit matters. That may sound really obvious but many times organizations focus on a lot more than the potential new member/associate member. Groups that understand who they are, where they want to be, and how they operate in the larger campus/college community ultimately recruit well. Groups that go through this keynote/training will understand that they will have better retention when potentials are recruited based on truth, brand, and honest experiences.
I offer specialized training tailored to meet the unique needs of your fraternity or sorority community, focusing on recruitment preparation and enhancing the skills of recruitment counselors. Whether you're a recruitment chair seeking to elevate your recruitment strategies, a council aiming to optimize the recruitment process, or an advisor looking to empower your team, I'm here to collaborate with you. Together, we can customize workshops, day-long trainings, or advisor sessions to align with your group's objectives and take them to the next level of success. Let's work together to refine your recruitment goals, strengthen your community, and create impactful experiences for all involved.
